Description
Three legs. It doesn’t wobble, and we want to keep it around.
For generations, this bench has been a fixture of working life in the villages of Beira, especially in Almeida. It was born from a simple and ingenious idea: to use the wood from broken ox cart wheels and attach three ash branches — the strongest wood in the region. Three points of support and it was stable on any ground. It was an extension of the land and rural life — made to last, made to serve.
Its form has stood the test of time and, decades later, it has been brought back to life, redesigned by architect Samuel Pinto.
Today, in addition to being functional, it has the value of memories of Portuguese history and culture. The design has been rethought, the construction remains artisanal, and the original spirit is still present.
It provides support wherever it is needed — for sitting and for leaning on.
